Wanted to pass along some good news on the health front and a race goal.
This past weekend presented an opportunity to achieve a goal that I set for myself earlier this summer – that was to complete a 5 to 10k running race. The perfect occasion became available with the Sauble Beach 8k Shore Run last Sunday morning. The run is part of the Sauble Beach Sandfest held every year around this time.
I have to admit we sat around the campfire at the cottage on Saturday night, sipping wine and discussing should we or shouldn’t we get up early the next morning for the run. I was so tempted to take the easy way out. It’ so convenient to come up with excuses at the last minute.
- I’m not trained sufficiently
- It’s too late tonight
- I’ve had too much wine
- I’m dehydrated
- I had that 10k hike this morning
- I’ve been sitting in the sun all day
Oh yes, excuses galore. But my good friend Jill said “Let’s just do it. We’ll get up tomorrow morning and just go do it”. And that’s what we did. Jill Fleming, Steve Shouldice and I just did it. So simple, but without Jill’s urging I’m quite certain I would have skipped it, using all or some of that list of excuses.
The Race
It was a beautiful day. A very casual run with dogs, strollers and not huge numbers of people. Perfect! I felt so good for having accomplished this goal, and owe Jill a huge thanks for getting my butt out there and pacing and chatting me through the run. And to Steve for chauffeuring us there, putting in a good time on his run, and taking us for coffee treats post race. Good friends make all the difference! You can be assured we put up our feet and enjoyed a couple of beverages that afternoon. That makes it all worthwhile!
Quick Health Update
On another front we received the very good news that my MRI is clear. More meetings with doctors coming up next week to determine next steps. And more information coming in all the time. We’ll pass along an update when we have more definite plans.
Happy weekend all!
